Clément Layes attended the professional circus school of Lyon. He studied art and philosophy as well as dance at the Conservatoire National de Région and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon. He worked a.o. with Boris Charmatz, Odile Duboc and Yuval Pick. In 2003 he started his choreographic research in the collective ALS. Since 2008 he works in Berlin and, together with Jasna Vinovrški, he founded the company Public in Private. He was awarded by the jury of the 38th INFANT Festival (Serbia), and received a prize at Jardin d’Europe 2011.

Public in Private research, reflects and questions social, political and cultural structures, as well individual position in this structures. Public in Private’s goal in a collaborative approach is to broaden up the borders of choreographic language, intriguing different thinking, perceiving and reflecting about own and about other medias. Most relevant aim is however, further developing of choreography as contemporary art form. Jasna L. Vinovrški and Clément Layes founded Public in Private in 2008 in Berlin.
