Martin Hansen studied at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, Australia. Whilst based in Australia, Martin worked within various contexts and capacities; company work included Chunkymove (Gideon Obarzanek), Not Yet Its Difficult (David Pledger) and Hydra Poesis (Sam Fox). Martin co-formed ‘Underpass’, a spontaneous choreography ensemble who’s work featured in Melbourne and Berlin, supported by Arts Victoria, The Besen Foundation and Arts House. Additionally this time saw Martin develop a working relationship with Cobie Orger that resulted in Human Edit (2005) and The Lost Living (2010). Alongside this Martin created and/or collaborated in the creation of installations, films and other performative works for AREA Gallery, The National Gallery of Victoria, Brunswick Street Gallery and Dancehouse. Martin presented his performative installation Sport Macht Dick (Sport makes you fat) at the Melbourne Next Wave Festivals curated program ‘The Sports Club Project’ at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in May 2010. In Europe Martin has continued to work in a variety of contexts. Martin has presented, collaborated and performed in various projects in Salzburg, Lublin, Vienna, Dusseldorf and Warsaw. Martin performed in Christoph Winkler’s A Taste of Ra and the solo work Baader and undertook a residency with Christoph at ‘Circuit Est’ in Montreal during the summer to facilitate the creation of Taking Steps.
