über_GANG. Film program for 20 years of Tanznacht Berlin

Mediathek für Tanz und Theater des Internationalen Theaterinstituts (ITI) | Open-air film screenings
Friday 11.9. 20:30, COURTYARD (open air) or in the boiler house (Heizhaus) in the event of rain

Tanznacht Berlin – the most wayward of dance festivals – is turning 20! No reason to wallow in nostalgia, but an opportunity to reflect and ask: What is it that characterizes dance ‹made in Berlin›?

In cooperation with the International Theater Institute (ITI) media library, Tanznacht Berlin 2020 is hosting two film evenings that look back on the origins of the festival. Is there a specific type of dance from Berlin? And if so, what makes it special?

The documentaries shown are part of the video documentation Dance of the Mime Centrum Berlin, predecessor institution of the Mediathek. Thilo Wittenbecher, then director, and Andrea Keiz, video docu- mentarian and dance filmmaker, have been capturing dance on Berlin’s stages since the 1990s through their film documentation for the future and for this event.

bi´bak

Originally imagined as a collaboration between ITI and bi’bak: The project space in Wedding focuses on transnational narratives, migration, global mobility and their aesthetic dimensions. Its programme incorporates various disciplines in art, academics, and community development, including film screenings, exhibitions, workshops as well as music events and culinary excursions.

From September 2020 bi’bak starts in the House of Statistics at Berlin Alexanderplatz an Experimental Cinema: “SINEMA TRANSTOPIA” set cinema as a social discourse space, as a place of exchange and solidarity and (post-)migrant, post-colonial and transnational perspectives.
