Tanznacht Berlin \u2013 the most wayward of dance festivals \u2013 is turning 20! No reason to wallow in nostalgia, but an opportunity to reflect and ask: What is it that characterizes dance \u2039made in Berlin\u203a?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In cooperation with the International Theater Institute (ITI) media library, Tanznacht Berlin 2020 is hosting two film evenings that look back on the origins of the festival. Is there a specific type of dance from Berlin? And if so, what makes it special?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The documentaries shown are part of the video documentation Dance of the Mime Centrum Berlin, predecessor institution of the Mediathek. Thilo Wittenbecher, then director, and Andrea Keiz, video docu- mentarian and dance filmmaker, have been capturing dance on Berlin’s stages since the 1990s through their film documentation for the future and for this event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
